Dismantling of Siren
The siren at the Olena cemetery has not been in working condition for some time now. After much deliberation, Bronson Township Trustees have decided to dismantle the siren and not to replace it.
Unfortunately, the cost is just too high. It would cost $20,000 for the batteries alone, with an additional cost of the siren repairs. It would cost approximately $70,000 for a brand-new siren.
Another consideration when discussing replacing the siren was that the residents living on the west side of the township never heard the siren due to it being so far away.
We, of course, want our residents to be safe. However, with technology today, most residents have access to a cell phone, radio or tv to get updated weather information and emergency alerts.
